Animal Services is responsible for enforcing all laws under Carson City Municipal Code 7.13 and state statutes; the care and control of animals in the community; and the health and safety of the citizens of Carson City.
Animal Services is responsible to protect the public and ensure the humane treatment of animals. This is accomplished by enforcing State and local ordinances in regards to the safety, health and welfare of the public. Animal Services provides security to it’s citizens from annoyances, intimidation, irritation and injury from animals and protects animals from improper use, abuse, neglect and inhumane treatment. We protect animals from health hazards, primarily rabies which is regulated through the issuance of licenses. Additionally, we maintain a safe and secure establishment for the confinement, maintenance, safekeeping and control of all animals that come into our custody. We determine adoptability of animals not reclaimed or surrendered by owners. We humanely dispose of injured or unwanted animals and educate the public on the importance of responsible pet ownership.
Animal Services also provides a quality pet cemetery for those who wish an alternative resting place for their beloved pets.
