The Carson Ranger District is just east of Lake Tahoe and stretches over the Nevada line into California. Its 368,600 square acres are split almost 50-50 between Nevada and California.
From high alpine peaks, with snow present far into the summer, to warm sage brush covered lower valleys of the semi-arid high desert. Summer temperatures range in the mid to high 90s during the day to the mid 50s at night. Winter temperatures average in the mid 40s during the day and the low 20s at night. Precipitation averages less than two inches a month in the winter to less than half and inch a month in the summer with occasional monsoon in late summer.
