The BAC functions as the region's local arts agency, offering performance venues, arts educational opportunities, and as a catalyst for arts and cultural development. The Brewery Arts Center’s activities are not limited to the facilities, however. Cooperative and collaborative relationships exist with most arts organizations, educational institutions, and special populations groups, such as the Washoe Tribes. The Brewery dedicates itself to innovation and creativity in fostering well-managed arts programs that enrich the lives of members of the community.
The Brewery Arts Center also offers a wide array of musical performances ranging from specific ethnic groups to classical, from jazz to rock. It is the major presenter of music in the community save the Philharmonic Orchestra. Additional, literary, dance, educational programs, and fine arts exhibits are offered throughout the year. The BAC is home to the Proscenium Players, a theater group that offers at least 4 productions each year. The King Street Fine Arts Gallery, operated by the Nevada Artists Association, is in the BAC.
The BAC is making strides in bridging cultural and economic gaps as well. The BAC is seeking grants and programs to increase its range of participants.
The venerable Brewery Arts Center continues to evolve into a great resource for both the arts and the general community. We serve by providing venues for performing and visual arts; presenting affordable access to arts; bridging cultural divides; providing meaningful programming to underserved populations; and with outstanding arts educational programs. The BAC receives much of its funding in the form of local government grants. The annual memberships and donations give us a modest sum to apply to the general operating budget. A small amount of private foundation and corporate support funding has been received in recent years. The Brewery is attempting to create new income streams to broaden its programming and continue to improve the quality of its arts and culture offerings. To that end, a strategic planning conference will be held soon to gain consensus regarding the future growth of the Brewery and how to fund its many activities.
